"Marion Stoddart: Work of 1000 Documentary Project" has received five Massachusetts Cultural Council grants for 2010 enabling us to reach more people with Marion Stoddart's empowering story. Last month, 180 Ashuburham 7th graders, through an invitation from teacher Paul Della Valle, met Marion Stoddart and saw a short film about Marion's successful campaign to clean up the severely polluted Nashua of the 1960s. Lucas Moisson moderated the program. Marion Stoddart was the featured guest, with Project Director Susan Edwards answering student questions about making media today. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The Work of 1000 is a David and Goliath story about Marion Stoddart, who in the 1960s led the charge to clean up one of the nation’s most polluted rivers during a time when most women didn’t feel such advocacy was possible for them—and in the process, inspired an entire community and generations of young people to believe that change was possible. Marion’s efforts helped get the Massachusetts Clean Water Act passed. She won a United Nations Global 500 Environmental award, was profiled in National Geographic, and had a widely-read children’s book written about her. Her secret? An ordinary person can do extraordinary things when they refuse to give up. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * You can now find us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/workof1000
